PREM Rugby: Harlequins v Sale Sharks & Saracens v Leicester Tigers

🏉 The Gallagher PREM regular season continues in the capital with Round 16 action on Saturday 16 May featuring Harlequins vs Exeter Chiefs at Allianz Stadium followed by Saracens vs Gloucester Rugby at StoneX Stadium.

Rugby union fans in London are spoilt for choice with the 2025/2026 men’s club season featuring a host of teams from the capital in domestic (PREM, Champ Rugby & National League) and European (Champions Cup) action.

PREM RUGBY IN LONDON

10 sides are contesting the 2025/2026 Gallagher PREM season which runs from September 2025 to June 2026.  18 regular rounds will be followed by the play-offs.  The top 4 teams at the end of the regular season will contest the play-offs.  The final is scheduled to take place on Saturday 20 June 2026 at Allianz Stadium.

Bath Rugby are the defending Gallagher PREM champions.  Bath beat Leicester Tigers in the 2024/2025 final to lift the Premiership trophy for the first time since 1996.

Saracens and Harlequins are the two teams in the capital aiming for Gallagher PREM glory this season.  Saracens won the Premiership title for a sixth time in 2023 with a 35-25 win over Sale Sharks at Twickenham.  Harlequins last held the famous trophy aloft in 2021 when they beat Exeter Chiefs 40-38 in a memorable Premiership finale.

SEASON SO FAR

Heading towards the business end of the season, Northampton Saints are top of the PREM table on 62 points.  Champions Bath Rugby are in hot pursuit with 58 points.  Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs fill the remaining play-off places.  Saracens are in the play-off hunt in sixth place, but need to string some wins together to stay in touch.  Sarries are on 42 points, 7 adrift of Exeter Chiefs in fourth place.  Fellow Londoners Harlequins are struggling for form in the league, down in ninth place on 16 points.  Newcastle Red Bulls are bottom of the table on 7 points.

🕒 PREM MATCHES COMING UP IN THE CAPITAL

Round 16.  Saturday 16 May: Harlequins v Exeter Chiefs KO 4pm.  Saracens v Gloucester Rugby KO 6.30pm ~ Round 17.  Saturday 30 May: Saracens v Harlequins KO 1pm ~ Round 18.  Saturday 6 June: Harlequins v Northampton Saints KO 3.15pm.

CHAMP RUGBY IN LONDON

Ealing Trailfinders, London Scottish and newly-promoted Richmond Rugby ensure a strong rugby union in London presence in the second tier of men’s English rugby which consists of 14 teams.  The Champ Rugby season starts in early October and will feature 26 regular rounds.  The top-six sides will then enter a play-off phase in May to decide the eventual Champ Rugby champion.

Ealing Trailfinders are the defending champions and top of the table on 121 points.  They set a record 17th straight win in CHAMP Rugby when defeated Hartpury.  That record has now extended to 25 wins on the spin.  Richmond are down in twelfth place and set for a relegation pay-off against local rivals London Scottish on Saturday 16 May.  The winner will be safe and guaranteed Champ Rugby next season.  The loser will play the winner of Blackheath v Plymouth Albion to decide whether the winner of Richmond/London Scottish stays up, or the winner of Blackheath/Plymouth get promoted.

NATIONAL LEAGUE 1 – RUGBY UNION IN LONDON

Rosslyn Park and Blackheath are London’s representatives in National League 1 for the 2025/2026 season.  The season runs from early October through until the end of April.  The current campaign features 14 teams.  The winner will gain promotion to Champ Rugby.
