A match with serious BT Premiership implications sees Melrose take on Heriot’s at Greenyards this afternoon. Kick-off is 3pm with admission on the gate.
Melrose have been the team to beat this season starting their Premiership campaign with 12 straight league wins and amassing 60 points in the process. However consecutive defeats to Currie Chieftains and Ayr saw the Melrose juggernaut temporarily stopped in its tracks before normal service was resumed with a 43-0 road win over Marr RFC at the beginning of the month. The team from the Borders are currently top of the league 7 points clear of Currie Chieftains who are in second, meaning a win today will all but secure Melrose the title.
Heriot’s are currently fifth in the table on 46 points some 6 points adrift of Ayr who occupy fourth place and the all-important final play-off place. That said the Edinburgh side have a game in hand on Ayr and also Watsonian in third spot on 53 points, so if the team from Goldenacre can claim an away victory this afternoon they’ll be right back in the race for the play-offs.
Will it be win number 14 for Melrose to tighten their grip on top spot, or can Heriot’s take the points back with them to the capital. All roads lead to Greenyards to find out!
Kick-off is at at 3pm.
Admission on the gate (cash only) priced: Adults £12/U16s free.
