Camanachd Cup

Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final 2017

Result: Newtonmore 3-2 Lovat.  Congratulations to Newtonmore the 2017 winners of the Camanachd Cup to become back-to-back winners of the trophy.  We’ll be back with a preview of the 2018 final – in the meantime subscribe now to the SportonSpec newsletter for weekly updates on the best of the spectator action in Scotland and see our ‘Events! page for the sport coming up in the days ahead.

The biggest day in the shinty calendar sees Lovat and cup holders Newtonmore go head-to-head at Bught Park with the ultimate prize in the sport, the Camanachd Cup, at stake.  Throw-up is at 2pm and tickets are on sale.

Known as ‘Shinty’s Big Day Out’ thousands of spectators are expected to attend this year’s final between two of the top teams in the country.

Last weekend both sides had a morale-boosting win, Lovat registering a 3-1 victory at home against Kingussie, while Newtonmore warmed up for today’s showdown by putting 6 goals past Kilmallie.

It’s a fascinating match-up between two teams that boast a very similar record in the Premiership, each with 21 points from sixteen games.  However it’s Newtonmore who have the superior goal difference, courtesy of a better defence which could be the determining factor today.  That said when the sides last met earlier this season, in June, it was Lovat who inflicted a rare defeat on Newtonmore winning a tight match by 1 goal to nil.

Will it be the 2016 winners Newtonmore who lift the trophy once more for what will be the 32nd time in their history?  Or can Lovat get their hands on the famous silverware as they did in 2015 with a 2-1 win over Kyles Athletic?  All will be revealed in Bught Park this afternoon!

The Camanachd Cup is preceded by the Kenneth MacMaster U14 Trophy Final, taking place at 11am between Lochaber and Kingussie

Gates open at Bught Park at 10.30am.

Throw-up for the Kenneth MacMaster U14 Trophy Final is at 11am followed by the Camanachd Cup at 2pm.

Tickets in advance are available via the Get Tickets‘ link.
