It’s ‘take two’ for the biggest day in the shinty calendar. After last weekend’s abandoned Camanachd Cup Final, Newtonmore and Oban Camanachd go head-to-head again at Aird Park in Fort William in pursuit of the ultimate prize in the sport. Throw-up is at 3pm and admission is free with a donation on the gate.
Last Saturday the weather was the only winner, the 2019 Camanachd Cup Final abandoned shortly after half-time with the conditions treacherous and the score at 0-0.
A weather inspection is planned ahead of today’s rescheduled date. All being well read on for our preview of the match …
Known as ‘Shinty’s Big Day Out’ thousands of spectators are expected to attend this year’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final at Aird Park between two of the top teams in the country.
Last year Newtonmore made it back-to-back Camanachd Cup wins against Lovat following up their 3-2 win of 2017 at Bught Park with a 3-0 win at Oban. Added to their 1-0 win over Oban Camanachd in 2016 it gave Newtonmore an impressive hat-trick of victories. And having it to another final who is to say they can’t make it a historic four wins in a row?
Standing in Newtonmore’s way are 2016 finalists Oban Camanachd who will be itching to get their revenge. Will Newtonmore continue their recent dominance of shinty’s biggest prize? Or will Oban Camanachd spoil their party and go one step better than 2016? All will be revealed at Aird Park in Fort William this afternoon!
Checking the Camanachd Association Facebook page before travelling, for confirmation the match is definitely going ahead, is recommended.
Throw-up at 3pm.
Admission is free at the gate with a donation.
