The speedway stakes are high at Armadale Stadium as Edinburgh Monarchs welcome Ipswich Witches for the second leg of their SGB Championship play-off semi-final. Tapes-up 7.30pm at Armadale Stadium, tickets are available.
Edinburgh Monarchs finished the season strongly with wins against Workington Comets, tonight’s opponents Ipswich Witches and Scottish rivals Glasgow Tigers to secure a place in the end of season play-offs. And with the slate cleared they faced the Witches again last night in the first leg of the semi-final play-off, ahead of this evening’s return to determine who will determine which of the two sides goes through to the Grand Final.
There wasn’t much to chose between the sides in the regular season with Ipswich Witches finishing just above the Monarchs in the Championship table. Likewise the fixtures between the sides were close as illustrated by the head-to-head record below.
It could all come down to a moment of speedway brilliance tonight to separate the teams, and whatever happens it promises to be both a nervy and exciting evening in front of a packed Armadale crowd.
Previous head-to-heads: The matches between the two teams have been tight this season with the Witches being defeated by just 8 and 4 points on their two visits to Armadale and the Monarchs being the only team to take victory in Suffolk.
Line-up for Parsons Peebles Monarchs: Ricky Wells, Josh Pickering, Sam Masters (capt), Mark Riss, Erik Riss, Max Clegg, Mitchell Davey
For Ipswich TRU7.COM Witches: Danny King (capt), Cameron Heeps Rider Replacement, Mason Campton (guest), Kyle Newman, Rory Schlein, Nathan Greaves, Connor Mountain.
Intro – 2017 SGB Championship : A revamped and rebranded second tier of British speedway will feature ten teams facing each other home and away twice, making a total of 36 matches for each side during the regular season. The top four teams will then contest the end of season playoffs to see who is crowned champions.
