Day 1 of the Longines FEI European Eventing Championship 2015 taking place in the spectacular surroundings of Blair Castle, an opportunity to witness some of the finest eventing action ever to take place in Scotland.
Eventing is a test of all-round ability for horse and rider, often likened to an ‘equine triathlon’. It’s a supreme test of the partnership between the two consisting of dressage, show jumping and cross country stages.
Competitors from a total of 16 nations have gathered at Blair Castle for the ultimate European prize in the sport. The action commences today with the dressage stage (which continues tomorrow) to be followed by the cross country on Saturday and the show jumping finale on Sunday.
A full list of the horses and riders taking part can be viewed here With the draw due to include the top-three ranked riders in the world, Michael Jung (Ger), William Fox-Pitt (GBR) and Ingrid Klimke (Ger), the competition promises to be fierce.
A team competition and individual competition will run in parallel over the four days. Germany are the reigning team champions, and their No.1 rider Michael Jung is the reigning individual champion bidding for his third successive title to equal the record set by GBR’s Ginny Elliot.
