Taking place from 17-22 May the UK Open Pool Championship is the latest major event from the Matchroom Pool Series.

Battling it out for a share of the $200,000 prize fund the world’s best players are set to take to the baize at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park led by newly-crowned world champion Shane Van Boening (pictured below), who in April became the first American to lift the World Pool Championship beating Albin Ouschan in the final at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes.  Boening starts his bid to become the first-ever UK Open winner against James Channon of Great Britain.

Another star attraction this week is Scotland’s Jayson Shaw, Europe’s Mosconi Cup MVP.  He starts the tournament against Ali Hirji Kheraj.  Meanwhile 2022 World Pool Masters champion Joshua Filler meets Robert Hart.

256 players enter the tournament of which 128 are seeded.  The players compete to get through to a seeded double elimination stage led by the top 32 on the Matchroom Nineball World Rankings.  Only the last 16 will make it through to the straight knockout stage.  The winner will take home a cool $30,000.

Play will take place across 24 tables at the Copper Box until the last-16 stage is reached on Saturday when the tournament will adopt a one-table set-up through to Sunday’s final.
