SportonSpec Backstage at the hockey

Spectator sport but not as you've known it ...  SportonSpec Backstage (details of next event below, tickets here) is a unique hosted experience designed for new and casual fans and suitable for families, friends, couples and singles alike.  Try something different and enjoy a sporting memory to savour! 

A private preview includes a rundown on the rules for those new to the sport, match build-up including context of the event + 'ones to watch', Q&A with players followed by a guided tour to familiarise you with the venue.  Once the action finishes on the pitch there's an opportunity to meet up with fellow attendees for a sporting social.  

A great way to get the most out of a trip to some live action - be that at a sport you are familiar with or discovering a new one!  Read on for details of our next event in May. 

Finals Day on 20 May @ 2018 Women's EuroHockey Club Cup

Introduction

Stand by to witness the crowning of the 2018 EuroHockey Women's Club Cup champions as a four-day festival of hockey featuring some of the best women's players in the world reaches a climax.  The SportonSpec Backstage package for Finals Day includes Host For The Day, Private Preview/Q&A with Men's International, Standard Admission and Official Programme.  Suitable for families and friends.  Spaces are limited, book early to avoid disappointment!

The Tournament

8 of the top women's teams in Europe are taking part including five-time national champions Surbiton who are bidding to make history as the first English side to win the most prestigious trophy in European women's club hockey.

Current holders HC’s-Hertogenbosch from the Netherlands are back to defend their crown alongside teams from Germany, Spain, Ireland and Belarus.  Up to 40 international players will be playing many of whom will be appearing at Hockey Women's World Cup in London this sumer.

Surbiton Ladies (pictured celebrating their 2018 Investec League Finals win) are expected to field Giselle Ansley, Hollie Pearne-Webb and Georgie Twigg, members of the GB team which famously claimed gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Club captain and England international Sarah Haycroft is aiming to be back from injury and join a number of other rising England stars in the Surbiton line-up fresh from being part of the squad that recently took bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Finals Day Experience

A SportonSpec host will welcome you at the start of the day in the main marquee where you will be treated to a private preview of the matches coming up to include a Q&A with an international player.

You'll then be taken on a tour to familiarise you with the ground, other activities taking place and recommended viewing spots (seats are unreserved) for the three matches starting at 11.45am and reaching a climax with the final at 4.15pm. Throughout the afternoon your host will be on hand to help with any queries. After the medal ceremony at 6.30pm a live band will be playing and there will be an opportunity to meet up with fellow members of the SportonSpec party for a hockey social!

This unique and exciting experience is provided in assocation with Surbiton Hockey Club who are hosting the EuroHockey Club Cup (taking place 17-20 May 2018) on behalf of the European Hockey Federation.
