SportonSpec is up and running!
We are delighted to have launched in the City of Glasgow. Why Glasgow? Well if it’s good enough for the 2014 Commonwealth Games it’s good enough for us is the short answer!
To be fair the decision on where to launch was not one taken lightly. Our natural starting point was a review of the world’s top sporting cities as voted for at the SportBusiness Ultimate Sport Cities Awards. Last held in 2012, Glasgow made the top 10 alongside London and Manchester from the UK.
So it was we had our very own shortlist of 3 cities. And while 2012 was without doubt London’s year with the extraordinary Olympic Games, as 2002 had been for Manchester when it hosted the Commonwealth Games, looking to the future was a very different ball game …
All 3 cities offered a multitude of spectator sport to enjoy, however Glasgow’s international roster of events (see below) took it to another level and hence a unanimous vote saw Glasgow and surrounding areas chosen as the launch pad for Sport on Spec.
International sporting events in Glasgow 2013-2015
August 2013 – UCI Juniors World Track Championships + World Youth Netball Championships
December 2013 – World Cup Gymnastics
July-August 2014 – The Commonwealth Games
September 2014 – The Ryder Cup
2015 – IPC European Swimming Championships
2015 – European Judo Championships
The next couple of years promise to be truly special for Glasgow and we look forward to keeping you up to date with the very latest ticket information for the huge diversity of spectator sport taking place.
To give you a flavour of what is in store for August and September, we’ll be bringing you ticket news of American football, boxing, speedway, rugby, golf, horse racing and wrestling (amongst others), not to mention football, ice hockey and basketball matches as the 2013-2014 season gets into full swing. Truly something for all tastes!
So what are you waiting for? If you haven’t subscribed to the yet, the sooner you do the sooner we can bring all the live action to your fingertips. Because you know what they say: there’s nothing like being there!
Yours in Sport,
Tim Underhill
