2022 HOME RUN DERBY PREVIEW
The waiting is over for baseball fans with Home Run Derby X in London marking the return of Major League Baseball to the capital for the first time since 2019 when the London Stadium hosted two sell-out matches between Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
Home Run Derby X (see below for full intro) is a new global event pitting legends of the game against each other in a new twist on the format, with the help of celebrities and rookies.
Four teams – representing Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees – will take part in the switched-up version of the traditional MLB Home Run Derby. A smaller version of a typical baseball field will feature Home Plate on a stage and an elevated Pitcher’s Mound, with points scored for home runs or catches by two opposition fielders.
Scheduled to feature are 2013 World Series champion Jonny Gomes and fellow former players Adrian Gonzalez, Geo Soto, and Nick Swisher, together with influencers such as Hashtag United’s Spencer Owen and football freestyler Liv Cooke.
Kicking off in London in July the tour will visit Seoul in September and Mexico City the following month.
Tickets are off-sale.
Doors open for Home Run Derby in London at 12pm. Last entry at 5.30pm. Event ends at 9pm.
🚊🚗 Travel tips: The closest railway station to the park is Crystal Palace, while Penge West is also within walking distance. The average journey time from London Victoria to Crystal Palace by train is 30 minutes. Plan your journey at the Transport for London website.
