A royal bank holiday weekend in London like no other awaits, with four days of celebrations including some Platinum Jubilee sports treats headlined by Saturday’s famous Epsom Derby.
From Lord’s to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to Epsom Downs Racecourse sporting royalty is under starter’s order to pay respects to the Queen and her extraordinary 70-year reign. Take your pick from cricket, horse racing, hockey and netball all on the Platinum Jubilee sports menu this weekend.
CRICKET ~ ENGLAND v NEW ZEALAND AT LORD’S ~ THURSDAY 2 to MONDAY 6 JUNE
It’s a new dawn for the England cricket team with Ben Stokes taking on the captaincy for the first time as England meet New Zealand at Lord’s to herald the start of a big summer of international action. The first Test match of the summer gets underway at the Home of Cricket on Thursday. Tickets are on general sale with availability across all five days.
HORSE RACING ~ EPSOM DERBY FESTIVAL ~ FRIDAY 3 & SATURDAY 4 JUNE
A jewel in the horse racing crown the two-day 🏇 Epsom Derby Festival is extra special in 2022 forming an integral part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Friday is Ladies’ Day with stylish attire essential to go with The Oaks, one of Britain’s five Classic races and contested by the best fillies of their generation. Tickets for all enclosures are on sale here.
Saturday is Derby Day and the 243rd running of the world’s greatest Flat race has a royal glow this year forming an official part of the four-day Jubilee weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. HOCKEY ~ ENGLAND v NETHERLANDS ~ SATURDAY 4 & SUNDAY 5 JUNE
On a royal weekend it’s only appropriate that Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) is on sports hosting duties. Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is the place to be for international hockey and the latest 🏑 FIH Pro League action as England take on the Netherlands in a women’s and men’s double-header.
With England teams featuring an array of Olympians in their side and the visitors ranked No.1 and No.3 (women’s and men’s teams respectively) in the world rankings, some of the best players on the planet will be on show this weekend.
NETBALL ~ VNSL GRAND FINALS ~ SUNDAY 5 JUNE
Also on the QEOP it’s judgment day in netball at the Copper Box Arena as the best club sides in the UK go head-to-head in the Vitality Netball Superleague 🏐 Grand Finals Day.
London Pulse – the capital’s representatives in the VNSL – finished the regular season in the top four for the first time to qualify for the play-off semi-finals, guaranteeing themselves an appearance this afternoon in either the third place play-off or the Grand Final. Defending champions Loughborough Lightning, last year’s beaten finalists Team Bath and Manchester Thunder make up the other three teams to qualify for the end of season play-offs.
