A BADMINTON BONANZA

By |January 29th, 2014|Uncategorized|0 Comments

“The fastest racquet sport in the world with the shuttle reaching speeds of 200mph+.”

It’s hard to imagine what a shuttle travelling at that speed would look like at close quarters, never mind how someone could get it back over the net.  But as luck may have it the Yonex Scottish National Championships, starting this Friday 31st January at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth, offers the perfect opportunity to find out.

With #Glasgow2014 getting ever closer the best players in Scotland could be forgiven for having their minds on the Commonwealth Games and the thought of representing their country in front of up to 7,000 partisan fans at the Emirates Arena. However with qualification for this summer’s badminton team still in the balance and based on ranking points and results up until the end of April 2014, those […]

GLASGOW 2014 COMMONWEALTH GAMES: THE PARTY COMETH!!

By |December 19th, 2013|Uncategorized|0 Comments

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

The words of American author Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) way back then, that lifted the spirits of many a fan in 2012 after the astonishing Olympic and Paralympic show had left town – and with it the sheer magnitude of what had just passed began to sink in.

Words of comfort indeed: except for those who for whatever reason decided not to come to the party, only to be left then with a lingering sense of ‘what if’.  For make no mistake, the London Olympics exceeded all expectations as a joyous shared experience and indelibly touched everyone who took part.

But so much for the lessons of the past and onto the future.  The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to be precise – a mere 216 days away!  The […]

SAVE OUR SPEEDWAY

A plentiful diversity of action has seen us give a ‘heads up’ on ticket availability for a host of sports events including boxing, football, roller derby, motorsport, golf, horse racing, cycling, lawn bowls, basketball and rugby – to name but a few!

Amidst all the excitement a more sobering tale caught the eye of late.  Namely the recent arson attack on the Ashfield Stadium, home of Glasgow Tigers, that at one point looked as if it may threaten the very existence of speedway in the city.

I confess to having something of a soft spot (and fascination) with speedway, a sport that once shone so brightly but now struggles to register on the sporting radar when up against the likes of football and rugby.  The […]

GLASGOW HERE WE COME. THE LAUNCH OF SPORTONSPEC

By |September 30th, 2013|Uncategorized|0 Comments

SportonSpec is up and running!
We are delighted to have launched in the City of Glasgow.  Why Glasgow?  Well if it’s good enough for the 2014 Commonwealth Games it’s good enough for us is the short answer!

To be fair the decision on where to launch was not one taken lightly.  Our natural starting point was a review of the world’s top sporting cities as voted for at the SportBusiness Ultimate Sport Cities Awards.  Last held in 2012, Glasgow made the top 10 alongside London and Manchester from the UK.

So it was we had our very own shortlist of 3 cities.  And while 2012 was without doubt London’s year with the extraordinary Olympic Games, as 2002 had been for Manchester when it hosted the Commonwealth Games, looking to the future was a very different ball game …

All 3 […]
